Your book ‘Taboo Life’ has just been published simultaneously in French and English, and it is already a great success. Could you tell us what it’s about and what themes it deals with?
First and foremost, thank you Joseph for offering me the opportunity to talk about my first book that tells the true story of my life in Cameroon as a child and young adult.
The book covers very sensitive taboo topics that most people don’t like to discuss openly, thereby causing a lot of frustrations and trauma. Some of the topics covered are: sexual abuse including a double rape, early pregnancy, abortion, single parenthood, betrayal, love quest, relationship with a married man

What made you decide to talk about those experiences in a ‘Roman à clef’?
A roman a clef allows an author to talk about real people and events with fictitious names. This was the best way to tell the true story of my life growing up in Cameroon without having to obtain legal approval from all the parties involved.
Now that you are a woman of influence. If you could inspire a movement that offers solutions in the fight against sexual violence, what would that be?
That is an excellent question. I would call it the SPEAK UP MOVEMENT. This book was published for four main purposes all related to the fight against sexual violence:
1- For my own therapy, so that I could find healing in the process of telling my story
2- For other victims therapy, so that by reading my story, they could be inspired to speak up as well and find hope to survive and thrive but also to heal from their own trauma.
3- For the world to start discussing those sensitive topics rather than keeping them a taboo, and thereby creating more awareness so people can learn how to avoid certain dangers, how to react when certain things happen to them, and possibly help deter those who may be tempted to cause more victims.
4- Most importantly, all the proceeds of the book will help build a SUCCESS CENTER where volunteers and other specialists will educate, support and empower people who may find themselves in the vulnerable situations described in the book.
Can you share the most compelling story that happened to you since you published your book and that reinforces your decision was good to tell your story?
Yes, it took me years of hesitations to finally publish this book and I am glad I did because I am heartbroken but also relieved when I see the overwhelming number of messages I receive from people who were sexually abused and could not speak up. After a book signing event, a lady about 60 years old walk up to me, in tears, saying that my story broke heart but she is glad I wrote about it because it will open the conversation so that more victims can speak up. She mentioned that she was a victim herself at a young age and that recently her two daughters came to her after reading the book and told her that they went through the same experience. She just wanted to thank me for helping others heal with me and for raising awareness on such a sensitive topics, to equip the younger generation so they can better avoid or tackle such situations.

The story ends when you leave for the USA. Did this step mark the end of your challenges? If not, do you envisage a sequel to your book?
Moving to the USA may have marked the end of sexual violence for me but opened the door to other challenges that will inspire those who will read the sequel that I am currently working on.
What advice you wish someone provided you before starting your journey to a successful businesswoman?
I wish someone told me the level of hardwork and resilience it will require but most importantly I wish someone told me the importance of having a mentor, because that would have definitely expedited my success.
